Our precious Amber Dawn Golightly, 46, passed peacefully through the veil to return to her loving Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 25, 2025. It was a beautiful spring day with the smell of lilacs in the air. Amber always loved lilacs.
Amber was born to her loving and devoted parents, Kaylene Owens and Marvin Chadwick Golightly on December 7, 1978 in Preston, Idaho.
Amber enjoyed her childhood with her three sisters and two brothers, roaming and playing on the family farm. She enjoyed picking strawberries, playing in the mud with her sister, riding bikes with her cousin on the sandy lane, playing in the irrigation ditch and helping move sprinkler pipe. During the winter, she loved playing in the snow, sledding, and ice skating.
Amber brought so much joy and happiness to her family and all those around her with her twinkling eyes and bright smile. Her young life was busy and full of ballet lessons, friends, and cousins. She loved camping at Diamond Creek, playing games like Steal the Bacon and Annie-I-Over, having picnics in the tree house, playing pioneer, and going fishing with her dad.
When Amber was twelve years old, she started having headaches and other health problems. Several months later, she was taken to Primary Children’s for a surgery to remove a brain tumor. Following her surgery, she underwent chemotherapy and radiation. As a result of this, she experienced many health challenges for the rest of her life. However, she went forward with courage, faith, and trust in her Heavenly Father, regardless of how difficult it was.
Amber graduated from Preston High School in 1997. She then attended Ricks College, graduating with a Bachelor of Family Science in April of 2006. She enjoyed her time there and the associations she had.
She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utica, NY from January 2000 through August of 2001. She loved her mission, and she loved the people she served there.
She worked at Oakwood Elementary as a paraprofessional, helping children for many years. This was a perfect job for Amber because she loved children. She also served as a primary teacher. She treasured every Sunday that she spent in primary, singing primary songs, and spending time with the children.
Every summer for many years, Amber planned and worked for weeks to prepare for the Franklin County Fair. She loved entering baked goods and treats, flowers, and homegrown fruits and vegetables. She won hundreds of ribbons and for several years got the award for having the most entries in the fair.
Amber’s life was one of resilience, strength, humility, love, and especially service. She spent her time doing and thinking of ways to brighten the lives of those around her. If you knew Amber, she found a way to serve you. She wanted to make others happy.
Amber loved her nieces and nephews and did everything she could to make life fun for them. She made every holiday, event, or gathering extra special. As one niece said, “Amber understood the importance of treats.”
Amber is survived by her parents, Marvin and Kaylene Golightly; her brothers and sisters, Shane (Kristina) Golightly, Wendy (Eric) Hampton, Keri (Bob) Weight, Cameron (Kari) Golightly, Audrey (Ryan) Lancaster; 22 nieces and nephews and 8 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dick and Ruth Owens and Donald and Nona Golightly.
The family would like to thank Dr. Beckstead and all the nurses and staff at Franklin County Medical Center for going above and beyond to care for and support Amber and her family.
