Alice Boyce Hardcastle 1928- 2025

At the age of 97, Alice Boyce Hardcastle returned to her Heavenly home on November 5, 2025, in Preston Idaho to be reunited with her sweetheart, beloved family, and cherished friends.

She was born in Lewiston, Utah, on May 26, 1928, to Paul C. Boyce and Norene Bright. The family was blessed with three sisters and two brothers, all of whom she loved and adored. She was a devoted and loving sister.

Alice cherished her family and enjoyed playing with her siblings, cousins, and friends. She often acted like a mother hen with her chicks-- watching over them, protecting them and teaching them.

Alice had a deep love for animals and kept many pets throughout her life. She was featured on the cover of the County Fair Magazine surrounded by animals. Horses were her favorite. She was a horsewoman with skills that helped her become a rodeo queen. One of her most beloved horses was Patsy Star.

As a child she resided in Lewiston, Utah with her grandpa and grandma Bright. She learned to cook, bake, and clean, but the greatest lessons learned were to face challenges with grace, experience joy, peace, laughter, and music daily.

After graduating from Jordan High School in Sandy Utah, she taught dance and worked as a telephone operator. Later, she attended Utah State University and studied nutritional dietetics.

Getting to know each other at school and church, Alice met her sweetheart Leon. They were married on April 1,1948 in Riverton Utah. On May 15, 1956, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. That experience was her most cherished experience

They lived in Utah and Idaho; each move was a new adventure-- owning a store, raising chickens, pigs, and cows, and raising seven children who were her pride and joy.

Alice made friends wherever she went; she loved to socialize with others. Her happiest moments were welcoming guests with a special homemade treat. She enjoyed art, dance, singing, baking, and she was, without question, the best peanut brittle maker ever.

She loved to sew, quilt, and mend, often transforming worn items into something new. Her daughters wore stylish outfits sewn by their mother, and even the boys looked sharp in their handmade shirts. In 1989, Alice was honored as Bear Lake County’s Farm Bureau Wife of the Year.

A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints she served in many roles throughout her life: President, counselor, teacher, chorister, single adult leader and visiting teaching supervisor. Her most meaningful service was as a ministering sister-- not only to those assigned to her, but to anyone in need.

Leon and Alice served together in the Logan temple for seven years. She treasured the scriptures and teachings of the prophets, keeping journals filled with favorite quotes, stories, and scripture references.

She deeply loved her family and friends, but above all, she loved Jesus Christ. Her greatest desire was to endure to the end, to be counted among the faithful, and to know that she had served with all her heart.

Her parting message to us: “Love the Lord, love yourself, but most of all love one another. Resolve your differences and forgive.”

Thank you, Mom, for loving us and teaching us to be strong. We will miss you until we meet again.

Alice is survived by her children. Jeanette Bullock (Alan) Debra Jacobs (Mark) Pam Wuthrich (Bob) James Hardcastle (Shannan) Val Hardcastle (Janice) Jill Feller (Bob) Amy Parker (Mark)
